Other Observations

“But I have met this man already, met them all
Have gone for dinner, drinks, the honeymoon
I have drifted through my life on phony swoons”

Other Observations is a rewriting of T.S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” from the point of view of the love interest. This poem reproduces the meter and rhyme of the original, as well as responding to the original content and metaphors, reshaping them for the new speaker.

An incomplete version of the poem, published during its composition, was first published as a chapbook of the same name by No Press in 2010. The complete poem was published online at dusie.blogspot.com on 5 May 2015 as Tuesday poem #109: http://dusie.blogspot.com/2015/05/tuesday-poem-109-helen-hajnoczky-other.html The work was also anthologized in The Calgary Renaissance (Chaudiere Books, 2016).

The ?! Press edition of this chapbook was produced for Calgary Canzine 2018. Copies are available on their own, or as part of the Canzine ?! Press Pack.
