About

I’m Helen Hajnoczky, a poet and artist living in Calgary. My current work explores themes of nature and its emotional resonance. I love hiking in the mountains, poking around the badlands, paddling mountain lakes and city rivers, and exploring every landscape in between, interpreting those experiences in my writing and art. I’m also interested in city spaces, old cast-off photos, and collageing old stuff onto other old stuff.

I’m the author of the books Frost & Pollen (Invisible Publishing, 2021), Magyarázni (Coach House, 2016) shortlisted for the Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry, Poets and Killers: A Life in Advertising (Snare/Invisible, 2010) shortlisted for Expozine’s English Book of the Year award, and the chapbook Bloom & Martyr (Kalamalka Press, 2016), which won the 2015 John Lent Poetry/Prose Award. My written and visual poetry have also appeared in a variety of chapbooks and magazines.
