The Winter Garden

“my skeleton wrapped
in a gauze of roots
the toxins pulled
up into a blossom”

The Winter Garden imagines a person trapped in a greenhouse at the end of the world. Excerpted from a longer work of the same name, this chapbook faces climate change and the degradation of the natural world, imagining the grief, despair, and existential horror that individuals will be forced to confront should humanity continue on its current path of decimating the eco-systems that support us and all other living things on earth.

The cover of The Winter Garden features a work by Julya Hajnoczky. This scan of leaves features subtle yet unnerving glitches, conveying the inability of human means to truly capture and preserve the beauty and complexity of nature.

This chapbook was originally made for Calgary Canzine 2018. Copies are available on their own, or as part of the Canzine ?! Press Pack.
